Girl with Green Sunglasses

Hello everyone:
This is a great time of year to be painting in my basement. It's so nice and cool. We don't handle the heat too well here in New England.
I've been digging through my old photographs looking for fun things to paint. I've always taken photos for painting but, in the past, I couldn't quite get them onto canvas.
This painting is from a photo I took of my sister's daughter, Rebecca who is now very grown up and a lawyer. She was all dressed up for playing outdoors in Vermont. I've always found the pose so charming, especially with those sunglasses, and it was a lovely experience to translate her to paint. I'm thinking I need to dig around for some more old photos. Happy Summer!

  1. A lovely piece. You have captured her innocent pose so well. I wish I could paint people so well.

  3. Hi Jean:
Thank-you. Portraits are a challenge! They are not very forgiving if I don't get them quite right.

  4. Hi Carol:
Children have such wonderful character - already built in. Too bad that we all grow up to become self-conscious adults.

  5. Hi Liz:
Thank-you. She was quite enchanting to paint. I had a devil of a time with that jacket.
