Doesn't that sound like some kind of parable?!! It doesn't matter what we paint. It matters that we paint. We learn by painting. The more I paint, the more I learn about painting. When someone asked me why I was painting a llama, my answer was "why not?!!"
The last few weeks have been busy ones and I miss writing in my Blog.
Leaf collecting is a never ending process requiring hours and days in this frantic attempt to get our yards cleaned up before the first snow. There was the trip to Florida for a few days and then there was the purchase of a newer car (my old one was a Honda Civic with 189,500 miles on it). More days and hours getting everything legal.
However, I managed to continue painting - thanks to my students. These paintings are the results of the last few weeks. "The Belly Dancer" was a journey into places I had never been before as a painter. It was a very healing journey and one that I totally enjoyed. I kept hoping that I would find the answers about how to paint things in this portrait. I saw this exquisite dancer three years ago at a benefit and was transported by her dance. It has taken me three years to get up the courage to try to translate the photograph into a painting.
And then there is "Miss Bella." I don't know what it is about llamas - but I just LOVE them!!!! Miss Bella was with her friend Miss Pippa (that could be another painting down the road)at a Hey Day event in Princeton, MA. Now I have a portrait of a llama and a camel. Hmm...I wonder what's next! Right now I'm trying squash. I need to work on my still life skills and I thought a painting of squash from my garden might be a good exercise.
Enjoy painting! and Paint!!!!! - Kathy
